Welcome to the Corner Mart, our own little mini-market, where you'll find snacks, beverages, and a vibe that feels like home. At the CornerMart, students have the opportunity to build customer service and money management skills as they learn to operate the in-house store, as well as the mobile snack cart. Other work tasks and opportunities at our Corner Mart include stocking shelves, labeling prices, and operating a coffee and tea station.
Welcome to the Learning Cafe! Here, students embark on a culinary journey where they master the art of reading and following recipes, hone their basic knife skills, and deliver legendary customer service. They also gain hands-on experience with cash register operations and learn to make healthy food choices. Join us and discover the perfect blend of education and culinary excellence!
Welcome to our Maker’s Market workspace, a student-run design studio. Here, our students design and make a variety of art crafts such as bracelets, necklaces, custom shirts, and bags to sell within our school community. Our students work on art skills, such as understanding primary colors and using pattern designs. We also work on organization and time management skills.
Welcome to our School Garden! Here, students cultivate their green thumbs by planting seeds, tending to the garden, and growing a variety of herbs and vegetables. They not only learn essential gardening skills but also contribute to reducing their carbon footprint by engaging in sustainable practices. Through our "seed to plate" initiative, students experience the full cycle of food production, from planting to harvesting and selling their fresh produce to the Learning Cafe. Join us in nurturing both the earth and young minds, as we grow together sustainably!
For this school year, we are excited to be launching the Bits, a student-run newspaper, and the Bite, a student-run digital podcast, to help keep our students, teachers, and families informed about events happening and people within our P94 community. At our media worksite, students will have the opportunity to focus on understanding and reporting news information, using technology, and working together to make an online paper and podcast.
Welcome to our Office! At our clerical work-based learning program, students will complete tasks such as making copies, laminating papers, shredding documents, handing out supplies, and filing documents. Students will build organization, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills in an office setting.
Welcome to Play Production, our Theater career work-based learning program! Here, students will learn about jobs in the theater, including light design, sound design, set design, props, stage management, dramaturgy, and marketing. Students will work on building skills such as collaboration, fine motor skills, creativity, sequencing, modeling, research, history, and communication.
Our Tech Lab work-based learning program is a collaborative project between our school and a design league project that was developed by an educational non-profit called MOUSE. At our Tech Lab, our students will have the opportunity to participate in a year-long project where they will learn about computer technology and understand artificial intelligence to design new concepts and problem-solve issues in our community. They will work on skills such as building technology and computer skills, problem-solving, communication, and community awareness.
At Tompkins Square Library, our students take on the important roles of toy cleaning and organization, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all. They also meticulously arrange DVDs and books and prepare library holds for patrons, contributing to the library's smooth operation and inviting atmosphere. Through these activities, students develop a sense of responsibility and community spirit while making a positive impact on this cherished public resource. Join us in celebrating their dedication and commitment to service!
This November, two of our students will be interning with Broadway for Arts Education twice a week, where they will have the opportunity to explore a career in the world of theatre. Our student interns will serve as assistants in a theater office where they will complete tasks such as making props, prepping for arts events, and organizing items. We hear that their first project has to deal with something pretty “Wicked.”
Kindred Bakery partners with our school to provide hands-on classes in professionalism, food safety, pastry arts, baking, and operations as part of our Work-Based Learning opportunities. This partnership gives students valuable skills and experience in the culinary arts, preparing them for careers in the food industry and teaching them about the cultural importance of food in various traditions.
This year, P94M is partnering with the Best Buy Teen Tech Center through Grand Street Settlement on the Lower East Side. The Teen Tech Center is a creative space where teens can develop critical skills through hands-on activities that explore their interests in programming, filmmaking, music production, and design.
The center will host two students at a time for a six-week rotation, during which students will select a project based on their interests and receive personalized guidance to complete it. Projects may include 3D printing, filmmaking, music production, clothing design, and more.
