ENL Program and Services

ENL stands for English as a New Language. It is an instructional service provided to English Language Learners by certified teachers which supports the development of full social and academic proficiency in English.

At P94M, ENL services are provided using both integrated and stand-alone models.  This means that depending on a student's proficiency level in English, we will either provide small group instruction apart from regular classroom instruction, or collaborate and co-teach with classroom teachers to provide academic language supports in the content areas of Social Studies, Science, and Math.

Our ENL teachers administer the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement, a state exam, to all of our English language learners every spring. This test determines the specific English language proficiency level that each student is currently on and the progress that they make annually in; listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
ENL Newsletters

Here is the latest edition of our ENL newsletter, proudly created by some of our ENL students P94M @ P188M! This special issue is all about two of their favorite topics—basketball and food. The newsletter highlights the amazing activities and experiences happening right here in our school!

In this edition, you'll find student reflections centered around basketball activities (e.g., basketball clinics) and cooking in the Learning Cafe. Two of our ENL students from P94M @ P188M—Lily and David, also sit down for an interview, reflecting on their after-school experiences, including what they love about basketball and their favorite dishes.

This newsletter is a snapshot of how our students learn, lead, and connect through language, sports, and food. We invite you to take a look and celebrate their hard work.

Thank you for supporting our ENL program and helping our students shine!
